Centre Pompidou-Metz, Metz

3.6
#1 of 31 in Museums in Moselle
Specialty Museum · Museum
The striking architecture of Centre Pompidou-Metz accentuates the beauty of the modern and contemporary artwork housed inside. The museum is a branch of the popular Centre Pompidou in Paris, and is one of the most visited cultural venues in France. The museum building’s hexagonal shape is one of its distinct features. Its roof is composed of laminated timber that intersects to form hexagonal wooden units, resembling the cane-work pattern of a Chinese hat. Three large galleries host exhibits. Most of these are from the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, which is the largest European collection of modern and contemporary art. The museum also includes a terrace restaurant with interiors inspired by a kaleidoscope, and a well-designed garden. • The building is very modern, while using natural materials as part of its structure. The exhibit on Klein and his contemporaries was fantastic, given breadth and depth to develop and present the subject. The exhibits rotate, so it is worth visiting every few years.
  • Interesting... probably if you like modern art. Well. Maybe if modern art is not that much your thing (like it is for me), the highlight is the young woman singing (opera) as a "gift" to a random chosen visitor of the museum (in the first room on the ground floor). She does this every 10 minutes or so, super cool
