Palais Longchamp, Marseille

4.2
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Palais Longchamp is famous for its intricately designed architecture, accented by the garden it faces. The palace was created to celebrate the construction of the Canal de Marseille, which brought water from the Durance River to Marseille. Although the foundation stone was laid by the Duke of Orleans in 1839, the building took 30 years to complete, partly because of the enormous expense and partly because of difficulties with local regulations. • First Sunday of a month museums are free. Art was really nicely exposed. Unfortunately no English descriptions, half of the exhibition in art museum was closed. Good place to take nice pic, after few minutes - nothing to do.
  • The Parc Longchamp deserves visiting. Really enjoyed walking. Also there are two very interesting museums.
