Trip Planner: Europe / France / Ile-de-France / Seine-et-Marne / Maincy / Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte
Constructed entirely on a platform surrounded by a moat, Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte can be reached by one of two bridges. The Baroque architecture and estate plan here marked the beginning of the Louis XIV style, combining architecture, interior design, and landscape design. The garden's pronounced visual axis is an example of this style. Inside, you'll find Monsieur and Madame Nicolas Fouquet's apartments, furnished to depict their 17th-century aristocratic lifestyles and decorated with their favorite artworks. From the ground floor, you can see the garden and countryside. Children's activities, guided tours, and audio tours in English are available at the ticket booth. Just past the booth, you'll find the Horse and Carriage Museum, with large stables and ornate antique carriages. In my opinion you have to plan for the whole day so that you don't have to rush and enjoy it to the fullest. First of all, the costumes are provided to the children who want it and which allow them to visit in (almost) period outfits. It's a simple idea but one that delights children so much! And the parents of the coup... Regarding the audioguides provided for the visit: the content is really very original compared to what can usually be heard. Indeed, the 3D effect is really confusing and original. A small downside though (and this will be the only one of my long comment): I found for my part that the audioguide lacked historical explanations, and that the really exciting story of the time and this castle especially was really too much " overflew." So I prefer the "classic" audioguides that give more information. (But to be quite fair, my spouse disagrees with me and really liked this bias. So it's up to everyone to make up their own minds). On the other hand the helmets are very nice to wear on the ears and the castle has really invested in this very good quality material. A little "frustrated" at the end of the tour with the audioguides, I found my happiness with the guided tour. A big thank you to this young lady who made us go around the castle this time with all the information, anecdotes, details, etc., necessary to "relive" the story before our eyes and that give a whole new dimension to the visit. She has not learned her text by heart as we sometimes see, but she knows her subject and knows how to answer questions. Finally: I found all the employees of the field very friendly and warm. Whether it's the reception, the shop, the reception of audio guides, people from the information point, etc. I wanted to point this out because if your employer comes to see this message, it would be normal for you to congratulate you warmly by feedback. To conclude: it is a visit to do ABSOLUMENT, because it is enriching on the one hand, and it helps a family to restore this monument of the history of France, and of french know-how, which no one would want to see lost.

Beautiful gardens, also to be visited during candlelight evenings, and the possibility for children to dress in period costumes.
One of my favorite castle in France. You have to go to the candle light during summer. It’s a magic atmosphere with the castle lit with thousands of candles outside and inside.
Amazing experience to France's second largest owned property! Amazing host and staff superb service and magnificent French dishes. I will definitely revisit this Chateau..
