La primera iglesia de Saint-Théodule de Gruyères se levantó gracias al conde Rodolfo III en 1254 para ser parroquia del lugar y aldeas vecinas. El edificio gótico fue completamente destruido por un incendio en 1679 y, de nuevo, en 1856. La reconstrucción se comenzó en seguida, consagrándose el templo actual en 1860. Es, pues, obra contemporánea en la que destaca su macizo campanario.

The First Church of Saint-Théodule of Gruyères was raised thanks to Count Rodolfo III in 1254 to be parish of the place and neighboring villages. The Gothic building was completely destroyed by a fire in 1679 and, again, in 1856. The Reconstruction began immediately, consagrándose the current temple in 1860. It Is, therefore, a contemporary work in which stands out its solid belfry.
