Zoo La Boissiere du Dore, La Boissiere du Dore

At Zoo La Boissiere du Dore, see the oldest breeding male orangutan in the world, appropriately named Major. He was brought to the zoo in 1989 with a partner, Manis. This partnership was a great success and, as of 2013, the zoo has the largest population of orangutans in Europe. In fact, it is notable for its primate collection, complete with the apes known as magots and lemurs that climb through carefully maintained jungle environments. View the primates in well-crafted enclosures that give you a sense of their original habitats.
