Chateau de Fougeres, Fougeres

Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Built on a naturally protected site, Chateau de Fougeres is on a rock emerging from a swamp surrounded by a loop of the Nançon river acting as a natural moat. It has three different enclosures that were used for defensive purposes, day-to-day use during peacetime, and for the safety of the population during siege times. Visit the impressive 13 towers, and watch an entertaining live show plunging you into the fortress’s construction during the medieval period. A free booklet at the entrance helps you find your way. • Not really a castle but mainly impressive medieval walls. Lovely settings and surroundings. Nice, calm town nearby. Good for two hours visit.
