  • A map of the grounds in English would be a good idea. There is a map on a sign but while walking it’s hard to remember, and more signage to show the path to the gardens. Also to include English...  more »
  • The first stone castle at Fontaine Henry is erected by the Tilly family between 1200 and 1220. Its chapel and the groundfloor of its seigniorial lodging survive to this date. The present edifice is.....  more »
  • This is a nice place to visit with adults and kids. The chateau is ancient and nicely-preserved, and it's fun to walk through and imagine life there. The only way you're allowed in is with a tour, and all tours are French-only, so learning about each area is a bit challenging for poor French speakers like we were, but it was still worth it. There is also a games area (presumably the types of games people played at the time) that the kids enjoyed. The whole site felt peaceful and it was nice to just walk around through grassy and tree-filled areas. The staff were all very friendly.
  • Didn't feel particularly welcome. Very restricted opening hours. Had to have a led tour. However guide only guided in French. We were given a brief English paper guide. We had to stand around while French speakers got the detailed information. We weren't allowed to go around on our own so got a tad bored while the indecipherable French monologue droned on and on. However as our daughter said, the French speakers looked bored and even the guides looked bored. There were too many people being shown round at any one time and one of the guides waited until absolutely everyone had departed each room so we didn't feel very welcome. The highlights were the very large friendly black and white cat and the friendly old dog. The cake at the end was nice znot much choice though)
