Verdun Memorial is a memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the World War I. Verdun Memorial was established in 1967 and is a major European museum of the Great War. It is a must-visit for anyone who wants to understand what happened in Verdun during the Great War.
The museum is organized on two levels and will instantly remind you of the battlefield. The building is topped by a dome. Since 2006, the lower level has been dedicated to the "Hell of Verdun," while the upper level represents the 1916 battle in the general context of the Great War. You will find a collection of many personal items and objects called "craft trenches" at Verdun Memorial. These will definitely touch you as they evoke the life and martyrdom of the men who lived one of the most tragic episodes of the war.

Très beau musée qui explique et exprime très bien ce que fut cette longue bataille de Verdun !! Compter 2 bonnes heures pour tout voir ... très bien fait ! more »Very beautiful museum that explains and expresses very well what this long battle of Verdun was!! This museum has a lot of excellent displays, including audio visual. Unfortunately, some of the big audio visual and the temporary exhibition had poor (or no) English provision. The best part of the exhibits for me however were reading about the soldiers difficulties returning home to their families, and the focus on the letters. This was moving.
AS a child i was 12 years old when my family and i toured the battlefields of Verdun. My Dad was stationed at Verdun from 1966-1967 in the US Army and we would go out on the French country side and see all the historical sites. There were country road at that time that had chain barriers across the because there was so many l live artillery shells that had not been cleared out of that area. I think the Trench of Bayonets and the ossuary impressed me the most. It is a battlefield and historical that is well worth the time for a visit. God rest all the soldiers on both sides that died there.
