Chateau of Chateaudun, Chateaudun

Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, Chateau of Chateaudun shows off its origins as a 12th-century fortress overlooking the Loire River Valley. Perched on a limestone outcrop, this converted castle underwent renovations adding outstandingly authentic Gothic, feudal, and Renaissance architectural elements. The main roofing has a Gothic style, and inside, a finely wooden carved staircase remains from this period. Today, the castle includes the chapel, the Dunois wing, the Longueville wing, and a large keep that is 31 m (100 ft) high and 17 m (59 ft) in diameter.
