Lying on the border of Normandy and the Maine region, Chateau of Carrouges is a picturesque chateau that acts as a summary of seven centuries of history. This destination makes an excellent scene for you to enjoy history at its finest while also delighting in a peaceful environment amidst the stresses of sightseeing. It is surrounded by water-filled moats, and apartments reside behind its sober brick and granite pink facades. Meanwhile, the style and décor of Chateau of Carrouges retain all the charm of an inhabited residence.

Don’t forget to check out the first floor with the state apartments, which are decorated in Renaissance and traditional styles. The "Louis XI room" contains a bed with fabric imitating Hungarian point stitch. The chimney breast in the antichambre d'honneur is decorated with a hunting scene. Furniture is of the Louis XIV and Restoration styles. The Salon des Portraits contains portraits of the lords and owners of Carrouges. Lastly, the main staircase, with its pink brick vaults, rests on four piles laid out in a square. • Very interesting chateau, would be nice to do a self guided tour.
  • Very nice castle to visit. It has a 500 year old section and a few hundred year younger section. It was very nice that it still had some of the original furniture and decorations. You can only visit the castle with a guide and, unfortunately for me, she only did the tour in French and provide me with an English leaflet
