Massif Central, Le Lioran

#181 of 213 in Nature in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes
Mountain · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Massif Central is an elevated region consisting of over 11 mountain ranges and eight plateaus. The onsite volcano has subsided in the last 10,000 years, allowing the central mountains to be separated from the Alps by a deep north-south cleft created by the Rhône River and known in French as the "sillon rhodanien" (the furrow of the Rhône). The Massif Central is right in the middle of France, covering 15 percent of the country. The entire region contains a large concentration of 450 extinct volcanoes. Put Massif Central on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Le Lioran sightseeing tool.
