Carriere Wellington, Arras

4.6
The network of underground tunnels known as Carriere Wellington played a major role in taking enemy lines in the Battle of Arras in 1917, and helped save the lives of many soldiers. Miles of tunnels dug beneath the Arras countryside became command posts, kitchens, sleeping quarters, and even a hospital, protecting around 24,000 Allied troops. • What a great place, poignant, somber, yet you can’t fail to admire the men that dug these tunnels. Real history, real heroes, see it!  more »

  • You must visit this amazing place its where Ww1 soldiers hid underground living, sleeping. Eating together prior to the battle of Arras. Bring warm clothes it's cold down there. The guide spoke English and French, she was excellent
  • Fascinating centre explaining the history of the tunnels and how they were utilized in the FWW. Extremely easy to walk to from Arras (We came from the station). As at July 2019, it was a €7 entry per person. You get an automated headset to wear, plus hard hat (in the style of a WW1 soldier), plus the tour guide explains in both French and English. The tour takes about an hour...Extremely informative and interesting. Thoroughly recommended. Toilets available on site, displays and gifts/items for sale.
