Take in the enormity of Abbaye de Montmajour, a pre-Roman edifice from the tenth century, an abbey church, and a 12th-century Roman cloister built by Benedictine monks. In the 18th century, the monks added the monumental St.-Maur monastery to the west. Climb to the top of the tower of this elaborate structure for a view of the marshland and Arles. Monks and tourists often stroll through the vast field of lavender at the base of the abbey. Make Abbaye de Montmajour part of your personalized Arles itinerary using our Arles online tour builder.

  • I didn't go inside but it's pretty impressive from the outside. I noticed it said it was free for European citizens between 18-25yrs. Probs worth a visit, plus remains of aqueduct near by.
  • Nicely renovated, rebuild from scratch, after some time will represent a very old historic structure. American tourists will adore it.
