Musee Somme 1916 is housed in a tunnel that served as an air-raid shelter during World War II. The original name, "Museum of Shelters," still lets you descend the tunnel to view the shelter with a diorama featuring two French soldiers, a German lookout covered in body armor and wearing a gas mask, a British medical post, artifacts, and a museum in a concrete tunnel. Musee Somme 1916 reviews
Brilliant museum, super interesting for all the family and was an excellent start to our morning. Thoroughly recommend more »
There is a lot here, relics of the minutiae, uniforms, weaponry, all manner of things, set out in the tunnel right beside the great church, and leading to a remarkable and beautiful garden more »
Perfect for our family. Good displays and pictures occupy children whilst adults read more. Also, it's a fairly small museum so we got through in an hour before children got bored.
Very interesting and its all translated into english. Lots of interesting objects and set-ups. However it is in tunnels so if you have claustrophobia or dont like tunnels then this is probably not for you.
