Kerimaki Church, Kerimaki

With an idea to gather all the townsfolk at once, the Christian community built Kerimaki Church, reputed to be one of the largest wooden objects in the world at one time. Due to its scope and complexity, this project required the participation of every single man aged 15 to 60 at the time of construction in the mid-1800s. Once it was completed in 1847, the structure was so illogically large that authorities investigated the possibility that builders got confused between centimeters and inches, which was disproved. With a capacity to host 5,000 people, this church features remarkably detailed woodwork and lavish galleries, filled with colored lanterns. View its spacious insides and the 37 m (121 ft) tall dome. Concerts and events are often held inside. • It is a beautiful wooden church, worth to visit it! However, you can see that it needs maintenance, a fresh layer of paint or some woodworkers who can fix the bad spots in the wood. If you are close, visit it. But also enjoy the view of the beautiful lakes in the area.
  • As we approached nearer to the worlds largest wooden church I wasn’t able to capture it all in one picture as there was so much detail and height to this amazing building. There was a tour guide inside as we entered and he enthusiastically informed us of as much as is possible in fifteen minutes or so. His stories and history of this old wooden church left me in awe! I was particularly fascinated with how the church was heated in the middle of the winter.
