Senate Square, Helsinki
The Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, National Library of Finland, and main University of Helsinki building surround Senate Square and make up a collective vision of neoclassical design. This historical square boasts the architectural influence of Carl Ludvig Engel and is home to the oldest building in the city center, Sederholm House, built in 1757. Stroll the square to view these stately structures, stopping to take a seat on the cathedral's stairs and to examine the statue of Alexander II, a monument of Russian expansionism in Finland. The square hosts many events, including concerts and art exhibits. See Senate Square and all Helsinki has to offer by arranging your trip with our Helsinki travel route builder tool .

On site are some of the most relevant institutions in the city and the country: the cathedral, the Council of State, the university and the National Library. It is a large and well sized space.
Najciekawszy punkt do odwiedzenia w całym mieście. W Helsinkach nie znalazłem starego miasta, lecz mimo to miasto godne zwiedzenia. more »The most interesting point to visit throughout the city. In Helsinki I did not find the old town, but still a city worthy of sightseeing.
An amazing spot to sit on the stairs in front of the building and check the people down below and the harbour and the ocean with the ferries coming and going. The building itself is bright and awesomely great in size which is not in any way typical to Finland. Nearby are little shops and cafes for some nibbles.
I love senate square.. The stairs are the best place to sit and enjoy the beauty of the place in good weather.. I was lucky to be there during a wedding and also got a glimpse of traditional Finnish wedding and a good capture with the lovely bride. Helsinki is full of people with beautiful heart.
