Acclaimed to be the world's most inaccessible church, Abuna Yemata Guh church sits perched in the side of a rock spire 762 m (2,500 ft) in the air. Only the physically fit and courageous can complete the climb, which includes steep hillsides and a vertical rock face on the last stretch. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and take advantage of the rope available for the climbing portion if you are not an experienced rock climber. This trip is not recommended for travelers with a fear of heights, asit features narrow ledges and rickety bridges. Once at the small church, however, you'll experience peace and solitude. Admire the wall and dome paintings dated from the 15th and 16th centuries, and take a few minutes to view the unmatched landscape seen from this high spire. It’s worth going through the crazy climb up to get to this beautiful church tucked away in the rock. Spiritual and quiet place with amazing views. It’s a unique experience
Believe everything you read here and hear from others. I have a fear of heights which I usually more than make up with my general fitness. I didn't think I would be able to do this but once there, combination of courage, will, very helpful and positive-minded priest (who ended up being my guide) helped me through. Unbelievable place.
