  • The early history of Ethiopia was centered around the legends of Queen Saby and King Solomon. Their son founded the Solomon dynasty in the vicinity of the ancient Axum (Aksum). Legend-that is generally verbal message says that in this place became the Palace of the Queen of Saby. However, these ruins are almost certainly not a remnant of the palace, only the ruins of Dungur-the noble Manor of VI in NE. However, there is a high probability that the actual ruins of the Queen's Palace are underneath. This is confirmed by archaeologists, who recently discovered there the bas-reliefs depicting a beautiful woman and a much older structure with a height of 2 meters. You can see the spacious chambers of the palace, the base of the columns, the Throne room, the stone drainage system, the brick furnace and the chimney. In front of the palace, on the other side of the road there is a cemetery (Gudit Stelae field). It occupies approx. 460 x 300 m and counts almost 600 large tombones. Many stele are overturned. The part stands under irregular angles. The name comes from Queen Gudit, who ransacked the city at the end of X W. The palace definitely has to see. This is one of the biggest attractions of Aksum. The cemetery can be viewed by the way. Very slow viewing of the whole will take 30 min. The place is less than 3 km from the city centre. Admission.
