Dalol, Afar Region

Experience the hottest place on Earth at Dalol, where the average temperature hovers around 40 C (105 F). Besides the heat, the town's peculiar landscape also makes it a standout: walk on the volcanic ground, or head over to the otherworldly hot springs. Soak in the yellow and orange hues of the salt formations, but stay away from the green acidic water. Don't forget to bring water, apply sunscreen frequently, and dress appropriately to better endure the heat. To visit Dalol on your trip to Afar Region, use our Afar Region road trip planner.
