Known for its intricate iconostasis, St. Nicholas' Orthodox Church houses 16th-century paintings and vibrant decor. Built in 1827, this Classicist-style church consists of two bell towers and a large copper dome. The white and orange outer facade emerges from a narrow cobblestone street. Step inside to view artistic objects and lavish decor. Light plays off many surfaces inside the main dome, which is lined with colorful glass and rich ornaments. You can get souvenirs and religious literature inside the church. Make St. Nicholas' Orthodox Church a part of your Tallinn vacation plans using our Tallinn trip itinerary maker app .

However, its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was set up for the Orthodox funds of Russian merchants. From the outside is especially not impressive, it is small but it houses a beautiful interior. Its decoration is a beautiful iconostas, dating from the turn of the 17TH and 18th centuries, and funded by the Carean-Regent Zofia, the sister of Peter I, is a work of the Masters of Pskowskich. The impression is enhanced by beautiful icons and paintings covering almost all the walls of the Orthodox Church and a cute starry vaulted ceiling. Here you can feel the sacred, which in my opinion is lacking in the Great Council of Alexander Nevsky.
Although there are more spectacular Orthodox churches this one is still worth a look and tends to be fairly quiet. The icons and gilt decorations are worth seeing. more »
