Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Take in the view from the ramparts, see the horrors of torture chambers, and taste genuine medieval recipes at Rakvere Castle. The site of the castle has been used as a stronghold since ancient times; much of the current structure took shape in the 14th century during Danish rule and the rule of the knights of the Livonian Order. Throughout its history, the castle saw a lot of combat and changed hands on numerous occasions. Today, visitors can fully immerse themselves in a medieval atmosphere through reenactments, tours, and exhibits. Don't miss the chance to learn some traditional skills, such as marzipan making, blacksmithing, or sword fighting. Some activities and tours need to be booked in advance; you can do it online. • This is one of the best castles I've ever been to (and I've been to MANY). They've .Ade it a fun family day including alchemy experiences, tours for kids & games, and more adult tours (barber shop) and a spookalley! The swords you can play with and you can explore all the castle. It is well done and just fun/interesting. WELL worth the drive! We did Rakvere and the boys in 1 day.
  • Came as part of Norwegian Cruise tour. Was very nice and interesting. Lunch was simple and very good. "Hell" attraction is a tad cheesy.
