Tallinn Gate, Parnu

#11 of 58 in Things to do in Parnu
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Once the only exit to the postal road leading to Tallinn, today the medieval Tallinn Gate serves as the city's only surviving piece of a 17th-century fortification. This Baroque arched passage once offered the only entrance and exit from the town; the rest was walled in. In the 19th century all the walls were destroyed, leaving only this passage as a reminder of the Swedish period. You can still walk through this pink-and-white monument, which was largely restored in recent years. A strange local legend says that everyone who has been unfaithful in their present relationship can repent under this arch and have their relationship restored.
