Temple Abydos, Sohag

Once a pivotal religious center and reportedly a gateway to the underworld, Temple Abydos is home to one of the best-preserved ancient Egyptian temples notable for its colorful reliefs and mysterious hieroglyphs. As the cult center of the god of the underworld, the center was a popular pilgrimage destination in Pharaonic times. In more recent history, this large archeological site attracted devotees of Dorothy Eady, a New Age practitioner who claimed to be a reincarnation of a temple priestess. The site features a royal necropolis, memorial temples, and several "forts,"--unusual tomb structures. • the most beautiful Egyptian temple , belongs to the new kingdom and king Ramses Great and his father Seti nice place to Visit In winter Months  more »
  • The temple was already known to me and can be found in all descriptions. Leg printers are the comprehensive terrain with the deep structures, the many underground corridors, the many loanmac piles, almost conceal, whose function in my eyes is not sufficiently clarified, because the archaeology of them are lacking meaning. And perimeter walls. Most impressive, however, is that at least 10 m in depth ossarium. Here, too, as at the Valley Temple of the Chufu Pyramid, one finds the most well-worked megalithic structures at the bottom and the later built in descending execution quality and precision above. As if our Stone Age and Bronze Age forefathers had better technical knowledge and machines than we have today. But at least equal. Love studied and doctored archaeologists finally opens their eyes and accepts the findings of the geologists about the age regulations in archaic arcaecological excavations.

  • Ideal for passionate lovers of ancient Egypt history, the majestic architecture, its lofty halls and magnificent character unavoidably leads to a breathtaking experience that transports oneself to the ancient ages. It is far a little from Luxor (+2 hours driving) yet it is a unique experience so it is absolutely worthwhile. The tickets are low price (approx. €5) and personnel in charge are kind and not very insistent in guiding one through the place as it happens in other places, it is a site you should not to miss visiting.
  • One of the best temples in Egypt. It's dedicated to the god osirees . One of the few temples that is well preserved. It's a great work of art.
