Absorb the blend of ancient history and modern knowledge at Bibliotheca Alexandrina, an important library and strikingly designed cultural complex. Built in honor of the historically significant 3rd-century BCE library of the same name--whose burning represents an immense loss to contemporary cultural knowledge--the modern institution was inaugurated in 2002 with backing from UNESCO. Designed to resemble a rising sun, the library complex aspires to be a bastion of knowledge and learning like its ancient predecessor. Explore the entire complex, which includes four museums, gallery spaces for permanent and temporary exhibits, and a planetarium. • A wonderful and indescribable place. It was amazing to know this library. A large historical collection and a very beautiful and modern architecture in one place. Additionally, its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea makes it even more attractive. Highly recommend to all!
  • The building is primarily an actual library for Egyptian people with a massive catalogue of books and digital archives. However for a tourist it's only just an okay place. Many of the exhibits held inside require additional tickets on top of the entrance ticket, and they're rather underwhelming. There is a free exhibit on the late president Sadat which is worth a visit, as it honors a great man who did a lot of good for Egypt.
