Tour several thousand years of diverse past at Alexandria National Museum, a museum with an impressive and well-labeled collection of antiquities. Set in a renovated Italian-style colonial palace, once home to the U.S. consulate, the museum houses ancient Egyptian tombs and granite sculptures, Greek stonemasonry, Roman mosaics, and Islamic clothing. Opened in 2003, the three-story museum boasts some 1,800 artifacts covering Pharaonic, Hellenic, Roman, Coptic and Islamic periods. There is also a 19th century collection which was one part of Mohammed Ali's rich court, including glassware, silverware, weapons, coins, and jewels. • The museum by itself is great. Well presented, the light is good. In general it worth to see. They changed the ticket design. What a shame. New tickets are poor quality. Security are still as stupid as before so no hope for that to get better.
  • This is one of the most amazing museums in Alexandria. Very well organized with three floors; the first contains pharaonic monuments and a special room that is called the tomb containing a mummy with its box. The second floor contains monuments from the Greek and Latin era. The third floor contains very marvelous items from the Coptic and Islamic eras. The ticket is for 20 LE for Egyptians. Taking photos need a special ticket. It is a must visit museum in Alex.
