  • San Francisco is the largest convent in Quito. The museum it houses is famous not only for the religious art pieces it houses, but also for its internal courtyards, which have beautiful well-kept gardens. Income costs 3 USD (July 2019). The entrance ticket has on the back the map of the tour to follow through the museum: exhibition halls, two internal courtyards and high choir on the top floor. There are several rooms, all with works of religious art. It begins with the room dedicated to the introductory of the Franciscan order to Quito during the first years of the city's founding. Here you can understand the importance of religious orders in colonial Quito. Paintings, sculptures, carvings, furniture, are some of the objects that can be seen along the route. Most have information about the work, such as the author, date, technique and even interpretation of symbolism (especially in the room dedicated to the paintings of the Ten Commandments and deadly sins). Of the two internal courtyards, it is the main one the most beautiful, with symmetrical gardens in which tall palm trees give a look of being in a tropical climate, despite the altitude of the city of Quito. The final part of the tour consists of climbing to the next floor, from which it is possible to observe the church of San Francisco from the Coro Alto. Beautiful ceiling decorated and full of details in gold leaf! The monastery remains in office, so you can see Franciscan monks in the gardens. Therefore, keep in mind that respect must be maintained in this precinct. There are well-maintained toilets near the second yard.

  • A museum adjacent to the San Francisco Church, which is said to be one of the oldest churches in South America. There is only San Francisco that the citizens of Quito value, and valuable materials are kept in a careful lye. When you go up to the second floor, you can see the church from above.
