La Capilla Del Hombre, Quito

4.7
#3 of 117 in Museums in Ecuador
Immerse yourself in a creative and spiritual journey with a visit to La Capilla Del Hombre, a museum housed in an Inca-inspired chapel. Established by artist and philanthropist Oswaldo Guayasamin, the museum serves as a tribute to humankind, reflecting on suffering and violence but ultimately inspiring hope for a better future. Tragically, Guayasamin died before the opening of his masterpiece, but his spirit lives on in the floor-to-ceiling paintings lining the museum's walls. Take a guided tour in English, Spanish, or French, included in your ticket price. • You can visit the Capilla del Hombre and the former residence of Guayasamen for 8. The Capilla is home to impressive paintings and works of art that reflect the suffering of the Latin American people. Without a tour, however, little is understood of the exhibits. Personally, I didn't like the house, because the shabby furnishings were presented a little heartless.

  • I had the pleasure of knowing the history and the beautiful work of Guayasamín. The guided tour allows you to understand the emotions and motivations of the artist. A great gift he left not only for Ecuador but for mankind. Must

  • This is a 2 part museum that should not be missed. The artist home is very very interesting and we feel honoured to be able to tour in his home as well as to see his workshop and workspace. The exhibition gallery is a pleasant visit after learning more about the artist, his life and then seeing his work in the end make this visit a must do. It also has a beautiful garden.
  • The museum has two sections: 1) the museum and 2) the house and studio. The museum has a broad selection of works and the display is stunning. High ceilings in some halls allow full appreciation of the towering works. The gift shop is in this building. The house keeps you in a group for the tour. Art in the house is smaller in scale but impressive. The studio was a dramatic work space. There is also a small outdoor sculpture garden within the grounds of the house. Awesome experience. Highly recommend.
