Once the scene of a bloody massacre Laguna de Yahuarcocha is thought to be around 12,000 years old. Visit this tranquil lake, which is said to be a relic of the post glacial period. Today the lake is abundant with bird life and is a popular recreational area. Watch for herons, egrets, and ducks. Take advantage of the serene water by going canoeing, swimming, and fishing. Leave time to visit one of the many restaurants along the lakeshore, which serve fresh fish from the lake.
