Malecon 2000, Guayaquil

4.5
A model of urban regeneration, Malecon 2000 provides a wide range of attractions and entertainment options along the Guayas River. Once little more than a pathway, the boardwalk fell into disrepair in the 20th century before its re-inauguration as a public space in 1999. Wander along the 2.5 km (1.5 mi) waterfront packed with monuments, historical buildings, gardens, museums, and more. Afterwards, kick back with a drink or a bite to eat at one of the many food courts, bars, and cafes scattered along its length, or simply find a comfortable green space and people-watch. • My girlfriend and I strolled through the Malecon 2000 on our trip to Guayaquil and we enjoyed the tranquility. It’s a nice place to be aside from the bustling city of Guayaquil and a good place to exp...  more »
  • The nicely landscaped riverside promenade offers more than a good step but gives the residents of Guayaquil a moment of relaxation all sorts of nature. Culture & Art for Old boy, festivals, theme markets, sports, a drink & a snack on the water, playgrounds & attractions for children, Etc... . And all this with a very safe feeling through the visible presence of security gardscamping and policemen. It is therefore fun as a stranger, tourist you to mix here in the relaxation life of a million city. But still. The sturdy, high metal fencing over the length of the Malecon, the abundant police, gives a weird feeling about your free movement as a West European. Crime lurks behind the corner, feeling keeps hanging with me. This gigantic city itself does not have much to offer its visitors than Dr. Malecon 2000. So stroll and observe the Ecuadorian on the promenade of relaxation.

  • Great family place to visit, beautiful views from La Perla, the ferris wheel however it is hot in there if you are going in the day time. Fun rides for the kids and a nice arcade. Recommend visiting!
  • This is Guayaquil's Riverside boardwalk. Has a few restaurants and a small amusement park. The Malecon 2000 actually has a gate with security guards. It's close to the old/historic/original Guayaquil. The water has a lot of debris due to two river systems meeting at that point. In the distance you can see an island uninhabited by humans, only crocodiles.
