Must see · Water Body · Nature / Park
Admire the deep color of Laguna Quilotoa, a water-filled caldera and volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. Travel by bus or truck to the small town of Quilotoa to see the impressive 3 km (2 mi)-wide crater lake with a turquoise coloration, the result of dissolved minerals. Last erupting in 1280, the volcano offers plentiful walking routes, including a 4-5 hour hike around its entire circumference, recommended only for walkers with some degree of experience on rocky, changing terrain. Guides and mules can be hired in village, which offers a good range of places to eat. Make Laguna Quilotoa a centerpiece of your Quilotoa vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Quilotoa attractions app.
