Trip Planner: Caribbean / Dominican Republic / Santo Domingo Province / Santo Domingo / Fortaleza Ozama
Visit Fortaleza Ozama, the oldest colonial fort in the New World. Dating back to 1502, the stone fortress protected Santo Domingo for centuries, and later served as a prison. View the powder house, the old cannons, and the ruins of the 18th-century living quarters. Climb to the top of the oldest building on site, the "Tower of Homage," for a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Consider hiring one of the several guides outside the complex for a short tour of the grounds. Fortaleza Ozama Reviews
È una fortezza di controllo del passato che si specchia sul fiume OBAMA e di cui ne carpisce unitamente al porto i meandri più reconditi . Da sopra la vista panoramica è davvero interessante. Per i re... more »It is a fortress of control of the past that is mirrored on the OBAMA River and of which it captures along with the port the most hidden meanders . From above the panoramic view is really interesting. For the rest there are no nearby finds able to erudiate the tourist on the historical value of the control tower. If you are in the colonial area it is a stop that is useful to do !
Es una maravillosa fortaleza colonial, bien conservada y llena de historia. Además el paisaje desde allí es increíble more »It is a wonderful colonial fortress, well preserved and full of history. Besides, the scenery from there is amazing
Very interesting, I love history. STAY AWAY FROM TOUR GUIDES AT GATE. There are signs everywhere in Spanish and English that tell you want everything is. Plus figuring things out for yourself is always fun. Its 100 pesos to get in and the so called guides want $40 US dollars. I've been 4 times and learned about everything without there help, but their are employees walking around you can always ask questions for FREE
Nice monument but the grounds need better landscaping and more could be done in the area of tour guides . Still, it is a place to see.
