Trip Planner: Europe / Denmark / Funen and Islands / Odense / Hans Christian Andersens Childhood Home
Hans Christian Andersen Airport is a small airport serving the Danish city of Odense. It is located in the village of Beldringe, some 9 km north-northwest of the city. For Hans Christian Andersens Childhood Home and beyond, use our Odense trip itinerary builder website to get the most from your Odense vacation.
The airstrip was constructed for military purposes in the early 1940s during the German occupation of Denmark.
Passenger numbers from the airport fell significantly after the Great Belt Fixed Link was opened in 1998, and today there are no longer any commercial flights between Odense and Copenhagen. Government operations of the airport were suspended in 1998, and operations were continued as a limited company operated by Funen County and the municipalities of Odense, Bogense, Munkebo, Søndersø, and Otterup. Effective 1 January 2007, the airport is owned by Odense (84.38%), Nordfyn (12.94%) and Kerteminde municipalities (2.68%). In 2000, a joint venture was established with Plane Station Denmark A/S for operating the facility. The arrangement was later terminated with politicians citing the low number of flights from the facility, and operations were resumed by the county and municipalities.
Hans Christian Andersens Childhood Home reviews
Despite being born to an impoverished family in dire circumstances, H C Andersen developed a vivid and well developed fantasy. Amazing to see his humble beginnings. more »
This house is (of course) also small but it has a nice little garden. It is part of the HC trail which is a nice way to get to know the city. more »
Nice to be able to see the humble beginnings of such an amazing personality like Andersen. It appears this is the likely place of birth but no conclusive proof exists per a plaque posted at the site. Really crowded when we visited and give the house is super small not much opportunity to hang around and absorb. Allow about 15-30 minutes for a visit.
Does not look like much, but to just to know and feel the place out is great. What I think is wrong is not to have an option to buy individual tickets. You buy a package for all the places, but if you do not visit with kids it is not worth it to visit at least two of them.
