Egeskov Castle, Odense

Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Admire the best preserved moat castle in Europe at Egeskov Castle. Built by Frands Brockenhuus and completed in 1554, the castle contains 66 rooms, six bathrooms, and four different mazes within the gardens. Notice that the castle is built on oaken piles and surrounded by a 5 m (16 ft) lake. When it was constructed, the area was experiencing periods of civil unrest, so many noblemen built their homes to act as fortifications. Explore the Hunting and Yellow rooms on the ground floor, and the banquet hall, Rigborg, Victorian, music, tower, and admiral's rooms on the first floor. Be sure to stop at Titania's Palace, an intricate dollhouse containing more 3,000 components, constructed by Sir Nevile Wilkinson for his daughter. • nice park ans castle, also a lot to do inside, when bad weather hits you. Dogs are allowed which is great. but very touristic.  more »
  • Loved the whole experience. The castle was cool but the grounds were better (especially the mazes). The car exhibition was very nice too.  more »
