Trip Planner: Europe / Denmark / Zealand / Copenhagen Region / Helsingoer Municipality / Helsingoer / Kronborg
A place of pilgrimage for Shakespearean scholars from around the world, Kronborg represents one of Europe's most recognizable Renaissance structures and is a World Heritage Site. Built in the 1420s as a stronghold for King Eric VII, the castle shot to fame in the early 17th century when it inspired Shakespeare to use it as a setting for "Hamlet." Follow in Hamlet's footsteps in the soldier's quarters and storerooms, which stretch beneath the castle and contain a famed statue of the legendary Viking chief Holger the Dane. Beautiful castle almost in the city center. Very easy to get to with public transportation. We bought a city card for 72 hours, so admission for this castle and many more places was free. We spent here a lot of time and enjoyed the beautiful arranged rooms. The treasury is a breathtaking place. Worth visiting!
Just super! I have been there before but went again with some guests and they were delighted and thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the historic castle. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Copenhagen.
