Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen

#1 of 685 in Museums in Denmark
Art Museum · Museum
Conveniently located in the center of the city, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek houses the personal art collection of beer baron Carl Jacobsen. The eclectic museum boasts the largest collection of Rodin sculptures outside of France, as well works by masters like Picasso, Leger, and Matisse. Although antique sculptures serve as a kind of focal point for most visitors, this museum also contains one of the world's biggest collections of paintings by Paul Gauguin. An added treat for art lovers, the venue features a glass-domed conservatory housing a small cafe that serves light dishes and cakes. Take a self-guided tour of the collection, or attend one of the museum's special concert performances. Plan my Copenhagen trip by asking Inspirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • Beautiful building with interesting mix of exhibitions. The new section of the building is stunning. We saw in interesting exhibition of Armitage work mixed with relevant exhibits from the museum...  more »
  • The exhibition is worth to see. Besides this there is also a restaurant and a shop. On Tuesday the entrance is free :)  more »
  • I can't speak for the school holidays, but it wasn't too crowded even though we went on one of their free Tuesdays. Very well-worth a visit, especially if you are interested in/enjoy classical sculpture. The collection is impressive, featuring examples of ancient Roman/Greek/Egyptian statues, alongside more modern examples. The building itself is very beautiful as well, and has a nice, calming atmosphere.
  • Take a visit on Tuesday (it’s free on Tuesday only. )It opens at 10am (Closed in Monday’s . Just about everything is closed on Monday in Copenhagen) This museum is fantastic. Definitely worth a visit . So much to see so much history , amazing art , sculptures and so much more . Loved every minute of my visit. You must check out the cafe it’s lovely and the food is delicious. Beautiful place to explore with the whole family.
