Klementinum, Prague

#17 of 146 in Historic Sites in Prague
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Architectural Building
Combine a classical concert with a guided tour in English of Klementinum, the largest area of historical buildings in the old town. Many of Europe's great astronomers, scientists, musicians, artists, and philosophers have studied and worked here since medieval times. Climb the 68 m (223 ft) high astronomy tower for views of the city center. As you walk around, you'll find two Baroque churches, a Baroque library with ceiling frescos and rare globes, and a mirror chapel. The chapel hosts classical concerts played on its two 18th-century organs. • This place is absolutely stunning. It starts relatively unassumingly but once you see the library, you will feel as if transported through time. Beautifully made. And a very nice view at the top! Bring some stamina though, there will be stairs to climb. The guide we had was very nice and had interesting things to say. I recommend this to anyone who likes to see historic places combined with a view over prague.
  • The library's history is interesting, but they showed a little part of all the building. Not allowed to take a photo, not allowed to go inside in library room. At least, there must be a reserved carpet line to follow inside of the book's room to look closely. The guide is OK but that's all you've got inside. The tower and the view is fine, so I gave two stars for it.
