Spilberk Castle, Brno

Must see · Historic Site · Castle
At Spilberk Castle, walk through the dark dungeons where common criminals as well as state prisoners, such as Italian nationalists or opponents of the Hapsburg monarchy, spent years of confinement. The 13th-century fortress, which rises up on a steep slope next to the historical center of the city, is a popular place for walks and relaxation. Over the centuries, the castle has served as the seat of the Moravian margraves, a fortress, and military barracks. Now it is home to the valuable collections of the city museum, which give insight into the history of the castle as the famous "prison of nations." • Very interesting, clean and full of story. In my opinion if they ‘d took in account the audio guides ‘d be better. This castle is a must if you visit the beautiful Brno.
  • Sprawling views of the city of Brno. 100% worth visiting and not a tourist trap. Only catch is that all the guided tours are in Czech. Plenty of English signage and boards however!
