Trip Planner: Europe / Czech Republic / Moravia / South Moravian Region / Brno / Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul
Climb to the top of the bell towers of Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, which always ring at 11 a.m. rather than noon as a nod to a tale of subterfuge during the Thirty Years' War. Stone balconies that are nearly 84 m (276 ft) high offer views over the city. The cathedral was erected on the site of a much earlier Romanesque chapel in 1777. Its Neo-Gothic facade is the work of 20th-century architect August Kirstein. Look for a quotation from Matthew's gospel written above the main entrance, which invites all hardworking people to find peace inside the church. The Baroque interior is complemented with high ceilings and stained-glass windows. The cathedral also features a medieval crypt. Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul Reviews
Eine sehr schöne Basilika mit Hochbarockem Inventar. Sowie einem monumentalen Hochaltar aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. As well as a monumental high altar from the 19th century. The noon ringing does not take place in the cathedral at 12 o'clock, but already an hour earlier at 11 o'clock. Legend has it that the Swedes had promised to break the siege of the city at noon on August 15. When the battle was underway, the witty Brnomen decided to ring at 11 a.m., and so the Swedes withdrew unfinished business. The basilica with its two towers characterizes the cityscape of Brno.
Není moc co psát, po romantické procházce Brnem doporučená zastávka. Ten den byla zavřená věž, takže by to mohlo být ještě lepší. more »Not much to write, after a romantic walk Brno recommended stop. That day the tower was closed, so it could be even better.
It's a beautiful church. The staff was very friendly, they gave us flyers on our language. The entrance to the church is free, the tower is quiet cheap and worth it to climb up.
