Konopiste Castle became famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo triggered World War I. Stop by to the castle's museum to see the bullet that killed him, which was fired by Gavrilo Princip. Take a guided tour to see Ferdinand's residential rooms, a shooting hall with moving targets (he was an avid hunter), and a garden with Italian Renaissance statues and greenhouses. Explore the third-largest European collection of armory and medieval weapons, as well as a large collection of antlers. A visit to Konopiste Castle represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Bohemia sightseeing planner to plot your vacation.

The castle would also be beautiful. To highlight the lack of respect for animals, deer, deer and mouflons forced in small spaces and a beautiful bear forced into a hot hole in a very confined space.

An uphill path nestled in the woods connects the car park with the building, allowing visitors to take a first look at the surrounding landscape. By the way very nice the pond in the surroundings. The castle, well cared for both inside and outside, retains all the original furniture and houses a large collection of historical weapons and hunting trophies. The palace guides unfortunately do not speak Italian, so the tour takes place via audio guide. We were lucky because our guide was very prepared and in English he illustrated very well the various rooms and the history of the castle. The castle's immense park is also open to visitors and skirts a small lake for a while. It is not difficult to see squirrels and rabbits in the bushes and often some fawns approach tourists in search of food. Beautiful castle located in a lovely place, perfect for all those who love nature and wish to spend a day of peace and quiet immersed in the greenery.
Beautiful and unbelievable Castle and story, BUT few negatives points. The positive points: - different tours - a bear living in the Castle - translation for how doesn’t speak CZECH. The negative points: - not possible to take pictures inside the tours:/ what for me was disappointing. - birds( owls , falcons) chained the whole day to a perch for people to look and take pictures. You can even hold the owls for a price around 50 -100 CZ At the end was a very good experience. Few pictures I have done to register my passage on there.
Fantastic day, walking around Konopište Castle. We drive 45 minutes to spend the day afternoon here, walking around this amazing landmark, soaking in the history. It's worth the drive, unique sights and one can feel the centuries of history here, as you can in many of the wonderful places in the Czech Republic.
