Ancon Beach reviews
Yeah, not too bad, a bit touristy but worth the trip... Watch the sunset!
Beautiful Caribbean beach with turquoise water, white sands, palm trees and just the right resources to lounge and enjoy it. Easiest way to get here is by taxi from Trinidad, usually agreeing on a round trip. (8-11USD per trip). There are other options like the public bus, that goes back and forth every hour, or rent a collective taxi (shared) or by bike, if you can resist the sun heat, because once you leave Trinidad hills, it is just a flat ride. Please note that cuban 9am heat in December was similar to any midday mid-summer one, so be prepared. The beach itself is a beautiful long white sand tongue. It has around 45 feet wide of pure white sand and then other 30 feet of palms and trees where to find some shade. It has few to no seaweed which is quite rare, waters are just shades of blue and it has a good area where kids or even no -swimmers can soak without any danger. On the sand, between the chairs be careful, because although they have gain the terrain to vegetation, there still are some roots acting as tourists traps, that end up on the floor. Sand also has bits of remains of fruits and some old pieces of garbage (mostly old cigarette butts and plastic pieces). It is not much, but please, if you read this, make sure to leave nothing behind, pick up what you see, and ask others to do the same. It is a luxury, it is everyone’s responsibility to keep it that way. Sunset time will trigger the sand fleas and they are true carnivores, be prepared to flee the beach, if you can stay longer than 5:30 pm you are a pro! Beach Services Aproximately 70% of beach area has different chair areas belonging to different business groups that provide also drinks and food. The trick is to offer the “umbrella” for free, but note that does not include the chairs. There are several types of chairs, from classic plastic ones (less aligned with the nature around) and others locally produced in wood. They all miss any kind of mattress, but I envision a future where taking advantage of the local mastery of palm leaf weavers, they will have mattresses of palm leaf, keeping the area fully preserved. There are several bars and restaurants and they pass around selling mini-pizzas. I hope in the future they will also sell fresh fruit, but as for now, pizza is now the hit, and cubans always offer their best. Overall, a great beach to enjoy the cuban caribbean out of the “all-included” resorts, with the added value of being just minutes of the charming Trinidad with its arquictectural flashback, its music scene and handycrafts.
