Hill of the Cross (Loma de la Cruz), Holguin

#3 of 23 in Things to do in Holguin
Lookout · Landmark
Head up Hill of the Cross (Loma de la Cruz) for extensive views of the city below and the hills on the horizon. Climb the 458 steps up to the top (take your time, you'll find benches to rest on about halfway up), or simply opt for a short taxi ride from town. The hill gets its name from the cross placed at the top, seen as a protective symbol by locals. It marks the spot where friar Francisco Antonio de Alegria initially placed a crucifix in 1790, having climbed the hill with the cross on his back. • The most beautiful place
  • Lovely views of Holguin from up on the hill. Well worth a visit, there are places to eat and drink up there along with some local trader stalls. There was also a guy singing and playing the guitar.
