    This stone monument named Josephinae Principium denotes the starting point of the important road that connects Karlovac and Senj. The road was opened in 1779 and called Jozefina (in Croatian) after it's founder Emperor Joseph II of Austria. It is one of the three historical roads that first connected continental Croatia with the seaside. Nowadays, the road is named State road 23 (D23). The distances to major Croatian and Austrian cities written on the monument are measured in old Austrian miles ( 1 mile ~ 7.59 km ).
