Rector's Palace, Dubrovnik

3.9
#4 of 92 in Museums in Dalmatia
Rector's Palace showcases the glorious history of the Republic of Ragusa. The Gothic-Renaissance palace served as the seat of the Rector of the Republic between the 14th century and 1808. Since 1872 it has housed the Cultural History Museum. Enter the atrium and admire finely carved capitals and the ornate staircase. See the statue of Miho Pracat, the only commoner in the history of the Republic honored with a statue--thanks to the wealth he bequeathed to the Republic. Other fascinating sites include the rector's office, his private chambers, public halls, administrative offices, and a dungeon. • Nice interior but only worth it if entry is based on dubrovnik card. One of the Game of thrones Qarth scenes were filmed here though so that's pretty cool
  • Beautiful architectural testament to the former Republic of Dubrovnik, with an interesting museum about the history of the city. Is sadly more famous for a staircase used in Game of Thrones than the actual museum and building, as there are some interesting prison cells in the grand hall that are open on display, and pictures from the Yugoslav Wars, where Dubrovnik was under Yugoslavian siege, and significant parts of the Old City nearly destroyed from the fires and bombardment, including parts of the Rector's Palace. Is certainly a good stop in Dubrovnik, not any random Game of Throne souvenir shop.
