Must see · Volcano · National Park
Explore the volcanic geological features and tropical forests of Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja, a 14,084 hectare (34,800 acre) national park. Two active and one dormant volcano dominate the landscape here, and provide the main focal points for a range of hikes. The park protects areas of montane and dwarf cloud forest, as well as an extensive diversity of wildlife, including sloths, tapirs, pumas, jaguars, and howler and spider monkeys. Note that crater climbs on the two active volcanoes may not be allowed at the time of your visit; check in advance. In that case, surrounding fumaroles and hot springs add more than enough excitement to the adventure.
