Trip Planner: Central America / Costa Rica / Province of Alajuela / Arenal Volcano National Park / La Fortuna de San Carlos / La Fortuna Waterfall
A short drive from town, La Fortuna Waterfall offers an idyllic place for swimming, picnicking, and relaxing. Fed by the Arenal River, which winds its way through the rainforest before plunging dramatically over a steep cliff, this waterfall forms a large pool at the base of a dormant volcano. Lifeguards remain on duty throughout the day, while modern facilities like restrooms and showers ensure a comfortable visit in a lush area noted for thick vegetation and abundant wildlife. Prepare for a short but arduous hike to the base of the waterfall by wearing shoes suitable for slippery and uneven terrain. La Fortuna Waterfall Reviews
... more »A beautiful and impressive waterfall with a swimming pool that can be bathed. Bring a swimsuit!!! We did not bring our descent to the comfortable staircase. The place itself is well-maintained. You can pay when we arrive in town. We arrived at La Fortuna in 15:30 and we came to the waterfall. This short drop of 15 minutes ' price is $18 per person. It's a bit pricey, but this is the price in Costa Rica (slaughtering tourists).

Absolutely beautiful - definitely worth visiting. $18 per person. There is a nice cafe with decent food and drinks a platform where you can see the waterfall. Then you can make your way down to the water which is quite a few steps so I definitely recommend good grip shoes or trainers. You can also swim in the water by the waterfall however the stones can be quite slippery so take care. 10/10
Magical & refreshing! Beautiful waterfall with a lovely view on top & trail to reach down. The natural pool on the left is very refreshing but lovely on a warm day. Must see!
