Take a stroll though the manicured gardens at Recinto del Pensamiento, admiring the variety of plant and animal life that have made their home here. Walk along the signposted track, up and down the gentle slopes of the eclectic manicured gardens. Stop at the relaxing Japanese-themed garden for a break, accompanied by the light tinkling sound of water flowing through fountains, and ponds filled with koi carp. Snap photos of the feathered residents of the hummingbird garden as they flutter around their feeding points. Head to the visitor center to arrange a tour of the gardens--conducted only in Spanish--to learn about the flora, fauna, and history of the plot. • The building is made of bamboo and reinforced with steel to protect the structure during earthquakes. I loved the inside because it was so unique.  more »

  • Leo was a fantastic guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the parks flora and fauna. Really enjoyed the experience. It started to rain as our journey began on the unprotected aerocable (ski lift) - much better to walk if it's raning and you mind getting wet. Definitely take a waterproof jacket. 10 minutes later and we were in the humming bird sanctuary, drinking (very nice) coffee and trying to take photographs of them. There are over 20 species in the park. The butterfly sanctuary was also spectacular even though I'm not really into butterflies.. There were so many species. The walk back (about 1km) takes you past a collection of bonzai trees and cloud forest that's bursting with orchids and ferns. This is a really relaxing experience and a welcome break / disconnect from the city. It costs 18,000 COP to walk and 25,000 COP if you take the aerocable/ ski lift. It takes about 15 minutes to get there from the Cable neighbourhood by taxi (12,000 COP)
