Trip Planner: South America / Colombia / Bolivar Department / Cartagena District / Cartagena / Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas
Wander the mighty fortifications of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, which played a crucial role in protecting gold shipped back to Spain by conquistadors in the New World. Originally completed in 1536 and expanded twice in the 17th and 18th centuries, the complex system of bunkers, batteries, and parapets represents one of the most formidable accomplishments in the history of Spanish military architecture. Walk the walls, explore the maze-like network of tunnels that links the different parts of the fort, and enjoy panoramic views from its highest point. You'll find little written information throughout the castle, so rent an audio guide if you want to learn about its history. Plan my day in Cartagena using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.
Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas Reviews
O local tem uma importância histórica tremenda (quase as termópilas da América) , mas só se percebe quem estuda ou assiste ao vídeo que fica escondido no hospital dos soldados. more »The site has a tremendous historical importance (almost the thermopyas of America), but only one realizes who studies or watches the video that is hidden in the hospital of the soldiers.
Yo recomiendo contratar un guia, ya que entenderás la historia y épocas en las que se vivió el desarrollo de Cartagena. more »I recommend hiring a guide, as you will understand the history and times in which the development of Cartagena was lived.
Non Colombians - $25000 Colombians -$20000 Student discount is only for Colombian students Accepted credit cards Lots of ppl selling water before it. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have some before going up. Not too hard of a walk. Good views from the top. Good picture points. They have bathrooms in there but we did not use so unsure if clean or free.
Great place to go with the family. Is mind blowing to see the small spaces they would sleep in back in the day. I highly recommend for anyone to go and learn about the history of El Castillo de San Felipe.
