La Catedral Primada, Bogota

4.2
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Church
Admire the largest cathedral in Colombia at La Catedral Primada, the seat of the city's archbishop. A small chapel in the 16th century, the church was restored several times and was completely rebuilt in 1823, when it assumed the grandiose Neoclassical form it boasts today. Outside you can observe the picturesque facade and take postcard-like photos to take home from your trip. The relatively simple and plain interior houses the tomb of Bogota's founder, Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada. • This is the most beautiful Cathedral I have ever been to. I come back every time I am in Bogotá. And if I book a stop-over it is so I can visit the Cathedral. Try to visit when there is a mass. Simply beautiful and also make sure to visit the small shop to get a rosary!
