The simple and modern facade of Catedral Metropolitana Maria Reina, with it's harsh angular lines, conceals a world of color that streams throughout the interior of this 1955 Catholic cathedral. The church's construction took over 27 years to complete, designed in celebration of the Colombian-Caribbean religious heritage. What goes unnoticed from the exterior are the hundreds of stained-glass windows that illuminate the vast interior. Renowned Colombian sculptor Rodrigo Arenas Betancourt created the impressive sculpture of Christ that hangs from the ceiling, above the marble grand altar.
