Founded in the 13th Century, Kun Iam Temple is the city’s oldest temple. Lavish porcelain figurines adorn the roof, and other decorations embellish the indoor halls. The two statues inside the main hall represent the eponymous Kun Iam, the Goddess of Mercy, and purportedly Marco Polo, who studied Buddhism in this temple. History buffs won't want to leave without seeing the stone on which the Sino-American treaty was signed in July 1844--marking a significant agreement between two of the world’s economic superpowers.
